As mothers and fathers, all we want to do is keep our children safe. We are always children to someone, regardless of how old we are. George Floyd’s last word was “Mama”, in hopes that the person who gave him life could save his life. This is heartbreaking on so many levels. Not enough intelligence to determine what’s a legitimate cry for help and everything else. Our hearts go out to his family, I can only imaging the pain that they feel.
Former President Barak Obama wrote in his Statement on the Death of George Floyd:“This shouldn’t be “normal” in 2020 America. It can’t be “normal.” If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives up to its highest ideals, we can and must be better . . . it falls on all of us, regardless of our race or station — including the majority of men and women in law enforcement who take pride in doing their tough job the right way, every day — to work together to create a “new normal” in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions or our hearts.”
You might have the choice to not listen to the music, but you will always have to face it.
