We all wake up and go to sleep differently. We all sleep differently depending on age and what is happening in one’s life. Are you more or less disturbed? Are we more or less anxious? Are we more or less drugged to ensure a good night’s rest?
Sleep is very much a private affair, even though it’s such a public conversation. There seems to be a good amount of shame and or pride around the amount of sleep you get. It’s not as if it’s not essential, but it has become increasingly worrisome. One’s dreams and or nightmares have long been considered representative of the unconscious mind-seemingly your dreams are representative of what’s quite front and center. You don’t have to look too far to understand why you might scream in your sleep or wake up in a sweat. The amount of anxious stimulation that is being fed to us in quantum amounts before we go to bed in the form of news and preferential binges is besieging.. Shit, might as well add a pint of ice cream to the mix.
So we are inventing and appropriating rituals and existing structures such as Meditating, Yoga, a shower before bed, to quiet the mind and soothe the soul. Those are not bad things, but these actions also affirm the condition as much as they provide solutions.
So what to do?
Watch Seinfeld instead of The Walking Dead before you go to bed.
