My relationship with my Mother was complicated, filled with heartbreak, disappointments, violations, and Love.
She died when I was 27. She died riddled with cancer, abjectly disappointed with life, and ostensibly alone. It didn’t start out that way, but that’s the way it ended.
It has taken me years to reconcile my relationship with my Mom, but that reconciliation has been an essential part of my evolution and resolve.
And today I think of my Mom with love and understanding.
Sunday is Mother’s Day and it’s time to celebrate. Even though for many events where dates are assigned then ritualized, somehow this year, this time, is inextricably tied to current events. We are celebrating all things Mother – Giver of life, Mother Nature and the Feminine voice.
The circumstances are subjugating us to “get into something” – to discover what we have.
Mothers come in all different sizes and varieties. For some it’s about adventure. Some it’s about being a pioneer. Some it’s about health and healing, and some it’s about play. Some it’s productivity and drive. Some it’s about humor, and for some, it’s about courage and it’s all about love.
Each Mother has their very own contribution and we celebrate all those very sui generis contributions.
Happy Mother’s Day, wherever they may be.
Love Always,
BC
