I think it’s a mistake to look for hope outside of oneself.
One day, the house smells of fresh bread—
The next, of smoke and blood.
That used to be the context—a smart narrative that gives one perspective and insight into the volatility of the human condition. Great literary quotes and passages stand the test of time; what was true then is still true now. But today? It’s more smoke and blood. It’s stale bread. The fresh bread is buried under the rubble of fear and toxicity.
My job is to provide direction and accurate forecasts about where one is going and what they are headed into, and then to assist in developing tools to meet the challenges.
It’s my job to look together with my clients at what can truly fulfill and what is more of a fantasy. Taking so many elements into consideration—people’s skills, their delusions, their resources, their ability to sustain through difficult times, their environment, the culture—so many elements must be included when directing someone’s life. It’s a big responsibility, and one that I don’t take lightly when collaborating with a client. The coaching must come from the perspective of 30,000 feet, where your needs, wants, or issues do not come into play when delivering direction.
As a coach, you must have access to all the emotional tools, as well as structural tools. It’s an intimate relationship based on trust and surrender, and faith that 1+1 = 100. Meaning: when two like-minded people come together, their lives become exponentially better.
