We all have difficulties in sustaining love. Is it that we know too much of our partner? Is it that familiarity really does breed contempt? Or is it that too many slings and arrows have been released and those scars just won’t or can’t heal?
It is rare when we see a long-term relationship that has sustained. We look at it the way we would look at some exotic animal. Oh strange and wondrous thing! We certainly long for it, desire it, make vows to be it and have it, but usually we all fall short. Many believe we are not designed for lifetime commitments, that monogamy is not a natural state. Whether that is true or not is not particularly relevant, because we still pursue the singular “Love of our Life” with manic zeal.
So given that searing desire, to fall in love with one person and stay with that one person, and raise a family with that one person will decidedly continue, we must unabashedly throw ourselves into the game with passionate abandon. Here’s to broken hearts everywhere.
Happy Valentines Day.
