We all need direction and support. The form of that support and guidance might take many forms. Sometimes it’s a gentle hand, sometimes it’s a mighty shove. We are not always comfortable with how the support comes and we usually have a preference with how it’s delivered, but sometimes the very thing we need is that the last thing we want.
There is a collaborative union between the supporter and the the supportee. You have to trust your guide and Trust is not blind. It is wide awake and aware of the skills, experience and intelligence of the one who is directing the action. There’s a sacred communion between the person who is directing the action and the person who is taking the action.
There is no HOPE in this joint intention. There is the accountability of the risk and reward. The guide or the coach has to know what the player can effect and the demands have to be consistant with the players, physical, emotional and creative abilities.
You can’t demand too much and you can’t ask too little.
The magic that takes place in these collaborations, whether they be physical-emotional-creative-financial, can be exponential.
